Leak: MSI “Claw” Handheld to Use Intel APU with 32gb RAM

MSI's upcoming handheld could be titled "Claw" if this new leak is accurate!

Well, it seems information about the MSI handheld is continuing to be dropped, and the newest one gives an even deeper look at what this handheld will be using, as well as a name for it and a new picture that shows the device fully! So, without further adew, let’s take a look at this leak:

With leaks, it is always good to take them with a grain of salt, but based on the images and sources, it would be hard to not make the connections.

The above is the first image we see of the MSI device, which seems to have the name “Claw.” The Chinese in the image above translates to:

Buy new products of Microstar. Win the Microstar CLAW game handheld. If you buy a full range of new products from Microstar Titan in 2024, you can enjoy the following benefits. Microstar’s rich gifts are full of surprises and sincerity. If you win the prize, you can get it before the market. Microstar Handheld One.

Microstar International is the full name of MSI, so it does track, and the image does look quite convincing that this is legitimate. The outline of the device lines up decently well with the teaser we got when the image outline was changed. Then, we have a Geekbench benchmark for a device that uses the same name, but with an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor.

In the benchmark, it notes that this will be using Windows 11 Pro and the processor is going to be quite beefy. The Intel Core Ultra 7 155H will have 16 cores with 22 threads, double the amount of cores in the Z1 Extreme and 7840U APUs, and a base frequency of 3.8GHz. This is 0.5GHz higher than the Z1 Extreme chip in the ROG Ally. It also has a larger L1, L2, and L3 cache.

The core has 6 performance cores, 8 efficient cores, and 2 low power efficient cores. It also has an Intel Arc Graphics GPU inside that has a 2.25GHz frequency. It has 8 cores, and funny enough, does support Ray Tracing. It has an AI Boost NPU as well. More details on the APU are available on Intel’s website.

The listing also confirms that the MSI Claw will feature 32gb of memory, which will probably be LPDDR5 or LPDDR5X. It doesn’t say for sure just yet.

This is all a leak, so take it with a grain of salt, but it definitely seems quite official. The reveal and announcement will be taking place at CES 2024 in 4 days, so we will have all the answers soon!
